Voting at the Nov 3, 2009 Elections by Absentee Ballot

If you are not certain that you can get to the polls that day, you may apply for an absentee ballot anyway, and then if you find that you will be available to vote in person, you simply go to the polls and ask them to nullify your absentee ballot.

Contact the Board of Elections office if you do not receive an absentee ballot within a week to 10 days.  Board of Elections tel # 570-296-3426. 

Mail the application or deliver it in person so it is received by the Board of Elections absolutely no later than 5:00 PM on Tuesday October 27.

 

The voted absentee vallot must be received by the Board of Elections by 5:00 PM on Friday October 30.

Voting by absentee ballot is a two-step process:

      1)   You must first apply for an absentee ballot by filling out a form (click on the link above to get the form)

2)       After the application has been submitted, you will receive a printed ballot which you will fill out and return to the County Board of Elections.  The instructions you need for doing so will be included with the ballot.

 

Instructions for filling out Absentee Ballot Application:

 

A)      Fill out the top portion marked “All Voters Fill Out Here” with the following mandatory information;

 

i)         Your name as it appears in the voter registration files, e.g., William and not Billy unless that is how you are registered;

ii)       Your current Pike County address;

iii)      Date of birth.

iv)      The address where you would like to receive the ballot – if left blank, it will be sent to your residence.

 

B)      Choose the box that describes the reason for this application, i.e., Absence from the Municipality or Illness or Physical Disability.

 

C)      If you choose Absence from the Municipality, fill out Section A and sign your name and the date of signature.

 

D)      If you choose Illness or Physical Disability, fill out Section B with the following mandatory information;

i)         Name of physician;

ii)       Physician’s phone number;

iii)      Physician’s address;

iv)      Your signature and date.

 

E)      Send it to County Board of Elections of Pike County, 506 Broad Street, Milford, PA 18337.  (Telephone #: (570) 296-3426.)  

 

Mail the application or deliver it in person so it gets there absolutely no later than 5:00 PM on Tuesday October 27.

 

The voted absentee ballot must be received by the Board of Elections by 5:00 PM on Friday October 30.

 

Instructions for filling it out will be enclosed, but if you still have questions, you should contact your county board of elections who will be happy to help you.  If you apply for a ballot but have not received it within a few days, CALL THE COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS!

 

Regardless of how you vote this year, please vote.  Democracy depends on it.

PROVISIONAL BALLOT
By law, you have the right as a registered voter to request a provisional ballot at your polling place if:
* It's your first time voting and you don't have appropriate I.D. with you; or
* You've voted before but your name does not appear on the voters' register at the polling place; or
* By court order.
